Rusa Timor (Cervus Timorensis)

The Timor deer, also known as the Javan rusa (Cervus timorensis), is a protected species native to Indonesia, including the island of Lombok. Despite its status as a wild animal, it faces significant threats from illegal hunting for consumption and use in crafts, leading to its classification as a vulnerable species.

This deer species is characterized by its relatively small body size, coarse and dense fur with a grayish-brown color, and lyre-shaped, three-tined antlers found only in males. These antlers serve as a defense mechanism against predators. Timor deer are social animals that typically live in groups, so it’s common to observe them moving together during their daily activities.
